A wedding day is when I experience, sense, sightsee. I feel along with those around me, creating something through what’s in my hands that conveys color, texture, and emotion.
An engagement session, however, is different. While most of the time, I consider myself an observer, capturing what’s unfolding before me, there are glimpses of time, where I find myself softly directing. I introduce a storyline, a prompt, and allow the subjects to create the story through their natural instincts. Many would say it’s messy, with no particular end in sight, and possibilities of wasted time. Too many variables, what-ifs, if you will.
But isn’t that the beauty of imperfection? The possibility of chaos, always right there. And people are imperfect. That’s why that make the best stories. I photograph the imperfect. Making something beautiful out of our organic interactions, love, and words. I prompted Freddy to walk across the street, give Bianca the bouquet, as if they were meeting all over again for their third date. I told them to re-feel the giddy, excitement and then let whatever happens, happen.
This is a collection of photographs of Bianca and Freddy’s real-life love — feeling in real time — captured on digital and 35mm.
